"Love & Logic" Parenting Workshop Series

Wednesday April 28, May 5, 12, 19 & 26th : 9:30am - 11:30am

A chance to brush up your parenting skills before the summer break!

Join Paula Huggins for a course of five workshops that will provide parents  with some food for thought and practical, hands-on skills. Based on the successful "Love & Logic" formula developed by Jim Fay and Foster Cline, Paula will introduce you to a non-confrontational parenting style where respect and responsibility lead to healthy parent-child relationships.

Paula is passionate about her work with families and the journey of self-development through parenting on which our children can lead us: if we chose to take "the road less followed"...   She works as a Counsellor at the Singapore American School and was the founding President of the Waldorf Steiner Education Association (Singapore).   As the mother of two rumbunctious boys aged 10 and 7, Paula has empathy for parents looking for a different approach: because our kids are worth it!

Parenting with Love & Logic

Most parents would agree that parenting is possibly the most rewarding and inspirational journey they've ever experienced.  At the same time, it can also be the most frustrating and stressful role they've undertaken in their adult lives.  The majority of parents take their role seriously and would do anything humanly possible to ensure that they raise responsible kids who are capable from within themselves of meeting life's challenges as they arise.  But we all have days when we wonder if they will ever manage to achieve this - and whether we'll survive the stress of getting them there!  So how should parents go about this daunting task of raising responsible and resilient children?  How can they appropriately equip their children to move from total dependence to independence in a mere 18 years?

Aiming to provide parents with some practical, hands-on skills, Paula Huggins will be facilitating "Love & Logic" workshops based on a best-selling book by Jim Fay and Foster Cline.  The workshops assist parents to practice a non-confrontational parenting style and will explore how to:

 · share control by offering choices
 · use empathy to bond with your child
 · set clear limits avoiding threats and lectures
 · neutralize arguments to avoid power struggles
 · encourage the child's problem-solving ability
 · become a "consultant" parent :
      building a positive parent-child relationship

As a result of using the techniques set out in the program, research has shown that the child's self-concept is preserved and enhanced. They are taught how to own and solve problems they create or face and share control and decision-making with their parents. Ultimately, the combination of age-appropriate consequences with high levels of warmth and empathy allow a healthy parent-child relationship to unfold.  This workshop will hone your parenting skills, deepen your insights and provide practical skills for everyday use with children of all ages.  Come to listen, share and develop your awareness of the most rewarding and challenging job of our lives!
